ABOUT :- Shipki La is a high-altitude motorable mountain pass at 3,930 meters (12,894 feet) on the India-Tibet border, located in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. It serves as a vital border outpost and the entry point for the Sutlej River into India from the Tibetan plateau his 5-day itinerary focuses on the offbeat villages of Spiti Valley, culminating at Tashigang .
BEST TIME :- to visit Shipki La Pass is from late June to September. During this window, the snow clears, temperatures are manageable, and surrounding Kinnaur-Spiti routes are fully accessible. Avoid visiting from November to May when heavy snowfall blocks the roads. TEMPERATURE :- 10′ TO -10 > DEPEND ON MONTH. .
DAY:- 01: Shimla to Kalpa (220 km, 7–8 hours)Start early to drive from Shimla (or Chandigarh) through the scenic Hindustan-Tibet Road.Ascend to Reckong Peo and head up to the beautiful village of Kalpa.Settle into your accommodation and enjoy stunning views of the Kinner Kailash range.
DAY :-02: Kalpa & Roghi Village (Acclimatization Day)Spend the day exploring Kalpa.Hike towards Roghi village to get a feel for the local terrain and adjust to the altitude.Visit the ancient Narayan-Nagini Temple and stock up on any necessary supplies.
DAY :- 03: Kalpa to Nako (110 km, 4–5 hours) Drive through the rugged, picturesque landscape of the upper Kinnaur region.Pass through Pooh and pause at the Khab Sangam, where the Spiti and Sutlej rivers meet.Reach Nako, a stunning high-altitude village known for its serene lake and ancient monastery.
DAY :- 04: Nako to Shipki La & ReturnCrucial Step: Ensure you have your permit checked at the Pooh/Sumdo checkpoint.Drive via Tashigang to the Shipki La. Enjoy panoramic views of the Indo-China border post.Note: Because this is a sensitive, highly restricted defense zone, you can only travel up to the designated viewpoint before returning to Nako for the night .
DAY :- 05: Nako to Tabo (65 km, 2–3 hours) / KazaDescend further into the Spiti Valley.Make a stop at the Gue Monastery to see the naturally preserved mummy, followed by a visit to the Tabo Monastery.
DAY :-06: Kaza to Chandratal Lake & BeyondContinue your Spiti expedition toward Kunzum La and the stunning Chandratal Lake.Alternatively, exit the circuit towards Manali via the Atal Tunnel.
INCLUSIONS :- ( Permits: As an Indian national, you can visit, but you must acquire an Inner Line Permit (ILP) from the District Magistrate office in Shimla, Reckong Peo, or Pooh.)
