ABOUT :- The Silk Route in Himachal Pradesh refers to the historic Old Hindustan-Tibet Road (originally started by the British in 1850), which was a vital trading corridor connecting India to Tibet via the Shipki La pass. This ancient route is famed for its breathtaking and often treacherous roads carved directly into vertical cliffs alongside the Sutlej River. Historical Significance: Traded commodities like wool, salt, and carpets moving from Delhi and Shimla, through the mountains to Tibet.The Route Trace: Starting near Kalka or Shimla, it weaves through Narkanda, Rampur, Sarahan, and the stunning Kinnaur Valley, ending at the last inhabited village of Chitkul.Shipki La Pass: At 3,930 m (12,894 ft), this is the exact mountain pass on the Line of Actual Control where the road finally enters Tibet.

DAY :- 01: Chandigarh to NarkandaDistance/Time: 175 km / 6-7 hoursThe Route: Start in Chandigarh and ascend NH5, passing through Shimla. Stop at Timber Trail for a cable car ride and Kufri for scenic valley views.Stay: Narkanda (Elevation: 2,708 meters) .

DAY :- 02: Narkanda to SarahanDistance/Time: 110 km / 4-5 hoursThe Route: Head to Hatu Peak (3,400 m) via vehicle to get a panoramic view of the Himalayas. Drive down through apple orchards and Rampur to Sarahan.Highlight: Visit the Bhimakali Temple—one of the 51 Shakti Peethas known for its unique wooden architecture.Stay: Sarahan.

DAY :- 03: Sarahan to Sangla (Baspa Valley)Distance/Time: 115 km / 6-7 hoursThe Route: Descend to the Satluj River and take the scenic link road into the SanglaValley.Highlight: Explore Kamru Fort and village.Stay: Sangla.

DAY :-04: Sangla to Chitkul & KalpaDistance/Time: 80 km / 4 hoursThe Route: Drive to Chitkul (3,450 m), the last inhabited Indian village on the old Indo-Tibetan trade route. Enjoy the pristine Baspa River, then retrace your route to Peo and ascend to Kalpa.Highlight: Unobstructed views of the Kinner Kailash (6,050 m) peaks.Stay: Kalpa.

DAY :- 05: Kalpa to TaboDistance/Time: 170 km / 7-8 hoursThe Route: Enter the arid landscapes of the Spiti Valley. Enroute, stop at Nako Lake and the tranquil village of Nako.Highlight: The ancient Tabo Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site dating back to 996 AD.Stay: Tabo.

DAY :-06: Tabo to Dhankar & KazaDistance/Time: 80 km / 4 hoursThe Route: Drive to the cliff-hanging Dhankar Monastery and Fort—once the capital of Spiti. Continue to the regional headquarters of Kaza.Stay: Kaza.

DAY :- 07: Kaza (Key, Kibber, and Chicham)Distance/Time: 50 km (Local loop)The Route: Tour the immediate surrounding villages of Kaza.Highlights: Key Monastery, the highest suspended bridge in Asia (Chicham Bridge), and the high-altitude village of Kibber.Stay: Kaza.

DAY :- 08: Kaza to Manali (via Kunzum Pass & Atal Tunnel)Distance/Time: 200 km / 8-9 hoursThe Route: Drive over the scenic Kunzum La (4,551 m) and pass Chandratal Lake. Proceed down to Gramphu, cross the Atal Tunnel, and descend into lush, green Manali. From Manali, you can easily catch transport back to Chandigarh.
